What an exciting meet for Cassidy. Unfortunately, Ellie couldn’t swim this time because of a knee injury. She dislocated her knee twice in 5 months and hasn’t had very many chances to race. She’s tolerating physical therapy which is actually doing some great things for her strength. So she missed the meet, but not long after she raced again and qualified for state in the 200 yard butterfly! So she’s getting back to it!
Instead of recapping the meet myself, I’m just going to copy what was written about Cassidy in our team email. It pretty much covers everything!
“Four of our 10-and-under girls—Audrey King, Cassidy Long, Annie Nelson, and Camryn Tanton; each swimmer is 10—and 12-year-old Tali Leauanae led the way, scoring a bunch of points for the team. We’ll highlight their efforts and then list the others who scored at the meet.
Let’s start with relays. Winning a relay at this meet meant banking 48 points for the team. The four girls listed above harvested the max amount available, 144 points, racing to a state championship in all three relay races—the 200-yard medley relay on Thursday (Audrey in the back, Camryn in the breast, Annie in the fly, and Cassidy in the free), the 400 free relay on Friday (Annie, Camryn, Audrey, Cassidy), and the 200 free relay (same order as Friday) on Saturday. What a feat. Congrats, girls!
Individually, Camryn and Cassidy both won two state championships:
Cassidy had a PR in every race she swam and finished in the top three in every event she entered to place second in the 10-and-under high-point race with 152 points. The max available was 168. Wow!
• Cassidy won the 200 free by more than seven seconds with an almost 5-second PR of 2:24.64.
• Cassidy swam away with gold in the 500 free by more than five seconds, winning with an almost 30-second PR of 6:26.04.
• Cassidy raced to second place in the 50 free with a PR 29.44.
• Cassidy nabbed silver with a PR 2:45.17 in the 200 IM.
• Cassidy dropped about 4.5 seconds in taking the runner-up spot in the 100 IM with a PR 1:15.05.
• Cassidy also placed second in the 100 free with a PR 1:05.62.
• Cassidy netted bronze with a PR 34.76 in the 50 back.”
